A 404.2 Carat Diamond Has Been Uncovered in Angola; Valued at $20 Million

Lucapa Diamond Company 404.2 Carat Diamond 2

An incredible diamond weighing in at 404.2 carats has recently been discovered in Angola, and it’s quite the stone, to say the least. The stone is an impressive 7-centimeters in length and it is now officially the largest diamond ever discovered in Angola in addition to being the 27th largest diamond in the world.

The diamond was uncovered by Lucapa Diamond Company, who are based out of Australia. They found the impressive stone in one of their mines in the province of Lunda Norte. The massive stone is almost entirely flawless and it has officially been certified as a Type IIa diamond. Type IIa diamonds make up less than one percent of all diamonds in the world. A small Type IIa diamond would be quite the find, but one that weighs 404.2 carats? That’s something to brag about. Additionally the diamond is a D color diamond, meaning that it is entirely colorless.

The 217.4 carat “Angola Star” was the largest diamond discovered in Angola, before this particular one was uncovered. According to Lucapa, they’ve valued this 404.2 carat beauty to be worth somewhere over $20 million dollars. Lucapa will move forward with eventually selling this luxurious stone, and it will be fascinating to see just how much money people are willing to spend on the 27th largest diamond in the world. While it’s not the biggest one of all time, it’s certainly extremely rare and valuable.
