Captain Sig Hansen Net Worth

Coca-Cola 600 Qualifying

Jonny “Sig” Hansen is the captain of the Northwestern, a ship featured on The Deadliest Catch, and has a net worth $3 million. The show has been on for a successful nine seasons and the Northwestern has been featured throughout all of them, with Sig as the captain. Deadliest Catch has been a major success and displays just how tough it is to captain a ship in tons of different situations. Aside from being a captain, Sig has also become a technical advisor in the show’s production process, which is pretty cool, but here are five more things you didn’t know about Captain Sig Hansen.

5. He started fishing at the age of 14

While most children were in 8th grade and looking forward to summer, Sig Hansen was aboard the Northwestern, which was then his father’s boat, learning the ways of the sea. He comes from a long line of Norwegian fisherman that were some of the first to get into the king crab industry, which is how he got his start. Once he finished high school, Sig joined his father full time and took over as the Northwestern’s captain at the young age of 22.

4. He is a successful writer

With the success and popularity that came from being featured on Deadliest Catch, Sig ended up partnering with writer Mark Sundeen to jot down his story on paper and release it in a book titled North by Northwestern: A Seafaring Family on Deadly Alaskan Waters. The book tells all about his family and his life journey growing up to become the captain of the ship. It actually became a New York Times best seller, which is the last thing Sig thought he would ever achieve.

3. Sig is a family man

Sig and his brothers are the family’s fourth generation of fishermen, so despite his tough guy appearance as a captain, he still is a very caring guy. Sig has two daguthers named Mandy and Nina, who only make his family bigger and him a more compassionate guy than he already was.

2. He was featured in Cars 2

Disney Pixar’s Cars 2 featured other vehicles, especially boats, but there was one specifically named “Crabby” which was voiced by Sig and supposed to be the Northwestern. He said it was very casual and “fell into his lap”, but was probably a fun experience nonetheless.

1. He really wants his daughter to follow in his footsteps

Sig’s daughter, Mandy, has been working on boats from a young age as well and is now 18 and allowed to join the show with her dad. She has wanted to do this for awhile now and Sig was even against it for a period of time until finally giving in. Mandy is currently attending maritime academy and Sig is thrilled to have her following in his footsteps.
