“Project Kometa” is the Latest of Heesen’s Bond-Like Yacht Creations

Heesen's "Project Kometa"

At the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show earlier this month, Dutch superyacht builder Heesen Yachts announced the development of a new 70-meter (230 feet) yacht called Kometa. Kometa is the company’s largest yacht build to date and features an anticipated speed of 30 knots (34.6 miles per hour), a range of 4,000 nautical miles, and promises up to 20 percent better fuel efficiency than yachts of the same size with traditional displacement hulls. The luxury superyacht also features a 39-foot beam, Heesen family exterior styling enhanced by internationally renowned naval architect and designer Espen Oeino, and a serene, soothing, and luxurious interior designed by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design that incorporates leather walls, cool blues and greens, wenge wood, and marble. Kometa’s amazing prospective features include a revolutionary fast displacement hull, a groundbreaking fixed pitch propeller, a Rolls Royce central booster jet, up to 357 square meters of deck space, a touch-and-go helipad, a main-deck cinema and indoor/outdoor entertainment area of 92 square meters complete with two large television screens, four below-deck double guest staterooms, an upper-deck VIP owner’s stateroom, a shaded sundeck with sunpads, barbecue, a bar, and a dining area, a 6-meter swim-jet infinity pool with a waterfall and glass-panelled bottom, and a beach club featuring a lounge with a bar, a steam room, and a view straight over the water’s surface.

The aluminum fast displacement Kometa is the follow-up to Heesen Yacht’s Galactica Star, a multi-award winning superyacht. Heesen Yachts doesn’t “just build yachts,” they “make dreams become reality.” Founded in 1978 by Frans Heesen, whose mission was to “build the finest yachts with exceptional standards of engineering and meticulous attention to detail,” Heesen Yachts has since become “a name that is synonymous with quality shipbuilding and award-winning yacht design. An emblem that sets the world’s finest yachts apart from the rest.” The Dutch company’s groundbreaking fleet of superyachts includes the likes of Octopussy (1988), the the fastest luxury yacht in the world with a top speed of 50 knots; Achiever (1992), the first traditional steel displacement yacht; Obsessions (1996), the world’s largest and most powerful sport fisherman; the Quinta Essentia (2011), Heesen’s first yacht built with an integrated floating dock; and Alive (2012), the first yacht in the world to harness kinetic energy. Already approved in the final stages of construction, “Project Kometa”–Heesen Yacht’s latest luxury superyacht creation–is expected to be launched in Spring 2016.
