The high-end, luxury timepiece industry is one that is filled with oddities. Leading brands will go to great lengths to design and create watches that standout amongst the rest. We’ve seen timepieces filled with diamonds and some that are even made entirely from sapphire crystal, but Richard Mille’s newest watch might just be the weirdest and most absurd one yet.
Officially called the “RM 69 Erotic Tourbillon”, this is the newest timepiece from Richard Mille. I wish I was making this up, but that is actually what it is called. As the name implies, this watch is all about evoking a “sensual” experience and emotions. The watch all revolves around its mechanical movement that was developed in collaboration with Audemars Piguet. Richard Mille created a new movement for this watch that features 505 different components and three rollers made from grade-5 titanium. When you hit the button that’s located at 10 o’clock, the timepiece displays a random message like “Let me kiss you tonight” or “I want to caress you madly”. Again, I’m not making this up.
Outside of that main feature, the watch has all the other qualities you’d expect a piece from Richard Mille to have: sapphire glass, a skeletonized back, titanium parts, shock absorbers, 41 jewels, a 69 hour power reserve, and much more. But still, the messages that the watch displays are the focal point of this piece. They wanted to create a watch that would capture the wearers emotion, and I guess they have done a good job at that.
The watch will officially be presented in Hong Kong at this years Watches and Wonders trade which takes place from September 30th to October 3rd. Richard Mille has already confirmed that they are only producing just 30 examples in total, and there is still no word on the price. Based on how much their other pieces cost, let’s just say you’ll probably have to own a hedge fund or be from a royal family to even consider picking one up. Regardless of price, this is easily the weirdest and most unique timepiece that we have ever seen.
