Rafael Nadal Debuts the $800,000 Richard Mille RM 27-02

It would seem strange as to why any athlete would wear a watch when competing at their sport, especially at the professional level. Depending on the sport, a wristwatch would just get in the way or irritate the player. Well this hasn’t stopped tennis king Rafael Nadal from wearing one over the years, and he doesn’t just wear any old watch.

Richard Mille, a high-end Swiss watch manufacturer has been providing Nadal with some pretty spectacular timepieces ever since 2010. Recently at Roland Garros, Nadal was spotted wearing a new watch from the brand. It’s called the Richard Mille RM 27-02 and it is arguably the most luxurious and absurd sports watch that has ever been created. While high-end timepieces that feature hundreds of moving parts and gizmos are cool, they would be destroyed under the intense pressure and g-forces caused by a tennis player, or any athlete for that matter. These extreme conditions are not ideal for high-end timepieces, at least, until now that is.

The watch has been created in such away that allows it to survive the extreme stress that athletes endure. It’s waterproof, shockproof, and just about every “proof” imaginable. Considering how hard and fast Nadal can swing the racket, it really needs to be. It’s also the first sports watch of all time that features a toubillon. Tourbillon’s are extremely difficult to make and are works of art, but normally would break under intense gravitational forces. Well not this one.

The watch is also extremely lightweight. Richard Mille pioneered two new forms of carbon fiber which have been used to make the watch. It has all this advanced technology and high-quality materials that truly make it an exceptional timepiece. If a Rolex or a Audemars Piguet were cars, they would be Rolls-Royces and Bentleys. This Richard Mille is the Lamborghini or Ferrari of the timepiece world, as it is able to perform in the harshest conditions imaginable.

If you want to get your hands on one of the RM 27-02’s, don’t get too excited. First of all, Richard Mille is only producing just 50 units in total so they are very limited. Second of all, the watch also costs $800,000 dollars which is ridiculous. While it maybe the Ferrari of the timepiece world, you could actually buy two Ferrari 458’s with that kind of money and still have some change left over. The luxury timepiece industry certainly knows no bounds, and this watch is evident of that.
