The Gold Apple Watch Will Include Leather Charging Box

Yesterday Apple had a large press conference where they announced new products, and gave consumers more details about their new Apple Watch, in addition to a few other things. This Apple Watch will be a first for the company, and fans of the brand and iOS users can look forward to owning a smartwatch from Apple. While the base model starts at $350 dollars, Apple has also created a luxury version known as the “Apple Watch Edition” and these models will be made entirely from gold. The gold models will be produced in limited numbers, and they will start at a crazy $10,000 dollars. Additionally these higher-end models will also come with a premium leather box that doubles as a charger for the device.

Outside of the products that Apple is known for, all of their goods are always packaged extremely nicely. Unboxing a new Macbook or an iPhone is kind of an enjoyable experience (at least for me it is). So following that fashion, it’s no surprise that Apple has designed a premium box for their gold watches. Sources tell us that their 18-karat gold watches will come with a box made from “aniline-dyed leather” and that they will also act as a case/charger for the device. The box will us a magnetic charging pad that can be plugged in with a Lightning cable that will allow it to charge the watch.

Apple has always been known to sell their products for a higher price than competitors, and many people consider some of their products to be defined as a “luxury consumer good”. Well they are certainly looking to break into the high-end luxury watch market with their Apple Watch Edition, and one can argue that this is the most luxurious product that they have ever released. It will be interesting to see how these sell, as this is still a first-generation product and Apple has never made a watch before. I’m sure the regular models will sell really well, but the gold ones certainly are ridiculously expensive. Another thing to consider is that within a year, Apple will probably release a second watch that is a update of this current generation. So will it be worth purchasing a piece of luxury technology made from gold, that will most likely be outdated in terms of technology within two years? Still those that can seriously afford to purchase the gold watch probably aren’t to concerned with the price tag.
