Check out the Urwerk UR-105M Dark Knight

Urwerk UR-105M Dark Knight

The award-winning Swiss watch brand known as Urwerk are at it again with their latest and greatest watch. Urwerk is well known for their unconventional watches and watchmaking processes, and that is truly evident with their new watch that they are calling the UR-105M or the “Dark Knight”. We’ve seen a few crazy timepieces before, and this one is just as weird, as unique, and as luxurious as the others. Let’s take a quick look at this watch.

Urwerk got its start back in 1995 and they immediately wanted to differentiate themselves from the seemingly endless list of Swiss watch brands. Instead of producing traditional watches, they decided they wanted to make their watches not so traditional. Their entire collection is very unique and their timepieces are industrial, aggressive, and utilitarian while still retaining high levels of luxury. As soon as you look at the UR-105M, you just know that its an expensive watch. Urwerk says they wanted to release “medieval inspired timepieces” and the Dark Knight is the result of such influences.

The watch features a large, shield like case that is made from titanium and AITiN treated steel. The glass is obviously sapphire glass meaning this watch can very much take a beating. Like many other watches from Urwerk, this Dark Knight features their signature “satellite time displays”. That display uses four wheels set on a cross shaped support that rotate on their own axis, independent from each other. The wheels have numbers on them and it is how the watch indicates the time. On the side of the watches case we find the power reserve indicator, and a small seconds indicator peering through curved sapphire glass.

On the back of the watch we find the “Control Board”. Here, the user can make adjustments to the watch without taking it in to be serviced. With a watch like this, you don’t really want to take it in to a specialist due to the complex movements and how long it will take to be serviced. Additionally there is an “Oil Change” indicator that shows you when you should take your watch in, should it need to be tuned up. These watches will be produced in a limited edition number of only 77 units, and the Dark Knight will cost around $67,000 dollars.
