Flowers and other items to plant, make the yard look lovely and add curb appeal are not inexpensive – even when you pick the inexpensive ones. It’s amazing what the cost of something so natural that grows in the dirt outside can be; but that’s the way life goes. Flowers and plants are pricey but when you see just how much the most expensive flowers and plants in the world really are, I promise you will feel so much better about how much you spent on your own landscaping.
What makes these flowers and plants so expensive is the rarity of them. Some bloom only once. Some are impossible to find. Some are death-defying to reach. Some are so rare that they only appear once every whatever number of years. Only the wealthiest of the wealthiest people in the world can afford this type of landscaping, and it’s well worth it for anyone to know what these items cost. Kadupul Flower – So Expensive It Has No Price
This flower is located only in Sri Lanka. It is so rare, so beautiful and so protected that you cannot buy it. It blooms only one time each year, and it happens in the middle of the night. People come from all over the world to see it happen in person, but you simply cannot purchase this flower. Additionally, there is a lot of trouble to be had if you are found cutting one or smuggling one. It is considered the most expensive flower in the world because it is too amazing for a price.
Juliet Rose – $5 million
This expensive flower took 15 years to create. It’s a hybrid made in a gorgeous shade of apricot by a rose breeder named David Austin. It’s 15 years of his time and effort, and it’s one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. It took him $5 million to create this beauty, and that is why the price tag on it is so astronomical. It is pretty, though; is it not?
Shenzhen Nongke Orchid – $202,000
It’s not the most exciting plant or flower you might see. It’s not even really all that special. However, it’s expensive because someone paid this much money for it. It was created in a lab over the course of almost 8 years, and someone wanted it so badly that they were willing to pay the lab this kind of money to have it. We don’t even know if there are more of them out there.
Rotchschild’s Orchid – $5,000 per flower
We couldn’t decide if we wanted this one on the list as the least expensive of the most expensive or not. It all just depends on how many you want in comparison to how many of the Saffron flowers you want whether or not this plant is more expensive than that one. We certainly would not go so far as to call this particular orchid a pretty one, but it’s interesting. It’s very elusive, found in only place in the entire world, and it takes years to bloom. For that reason alone, people will pay big bucks for it. It makes it very hard for the neighbors to keep up with your landscaping when you have this orchid in the lawn.
Saffron Crocus – $1,500 per pound
We all know by now that saffron is the most expensive spice in the world in terms of weight. It is not a big secret by any means, but it’s very expensive. To get even a pound of this to plant at home means spending $1,500 per pound. You need several pounds just to make them noticeable in the yard. To be clear, to make only 500 grams of saffron, you need 80,000 flowers. Do you see now how much money you would spend on these if you want to grow your own saffron?
