The Shangri La Hotel Group is a luxury group based out of Hong Kong, and the luxe chain features only the finest 5-star hotels. While the hotel group is the number one choice in Chinese travel, it ranks fourth in luxury hotel groups in other major cities around the world. However, the consumer interest in the brand, its amenities and its sheer luxury has earned the hotel group the title of the fastest growing luxury chain in the world in the eyes of consumers.
The Digital Luxury Group announced this information this week, citing the information acquired by their research as well as research done by the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne proves that there has been a 20 percent increase in the brand’s interest, which is far more than any of the group’s rivals. This information stems from a myriad of online surveys performed. More than 485 online searches were performed, and this includes information derived from more than 20 different travel markets and more than 70 different brands.
In the year between July 2013 and July 2014, the Chinese market for luxury hotel bookings rose a significant 39 percent. As far as Shangri La destinations are concerned, it’s not China that leads the pack as far as location. Most consumers interested in the hotel brand focus their search for the luxury hotel in locations outside of China, particularly in cities such as Paris and Dubai. Additional luxury hotels that saw an increase in consumer interest in the past year include the Four Seasons, which was also voted the best of the best in terms of high-end luxury.
Furthermore, consumer interest in luxury travel for all luxury hotels rose more than 7 percent, but the highest level of interest was focused on the exclusive area of luxury travel such as superior 5-star hotels rather than 4-star and resort hotels, though their interest did rise some.
