5 of the Top Eco-Friendly Southern California Hotels

Eco Friendly Souther California Hotels

As people around the world celebrated Earth Day this week, we are reminded that it is important to be more environmentally conscious. Being eco-friendly is all the rage today (for good reasons), and many hotels are finding ways that they can make their businesses more environmentally friendly. In California, a state where there’s a larger group of eco-conscious individuals, not only are there plenty of eco-friendly hotels, but hotels that are also extremely premium as well. These hotels are very important today in California given the current drought. So in light of Earth Day, we are going to take a look at five great hotels in southern California that are environmentally conscientious.

5. The Montage Beverly Hills

The Montage Beverly Hills

Aside from being absurdly luxurious, the Montage Beverly Hills is also extremely green. They are the first LEED-NC certified luxury hotel in SoCal and are one of the few hotels in the world to earn a Gold certification from them. The hotel practices many green principles including energy management, waste recycling, greenhouse gas management, and enviornmentally preferred purchasing programs.

 4. L’Auberge Del Mar

L'Auberge Del Mar

Located right near San Diego, L’Auberge Del Mar is a very premium hotel and resort on the beach that is committed to green practices. They serve sustainable food, used recycled material for construction, have energy efficient lights, they donate waste oil for Biodiesel cars, their spa uses organic products, and even the room keys are 100% biodegradable.

3. Terranea Resort

Terranea Resort

Terranea is located out in Rancho Palos Verdes and it is a stunning resort/golf course overlooking the ocean. In addition to following many green practices, Terranea also launches many conservation projects throughout the year to help care for the surrounding nature. So not only is the resort incredible, it is also very eco-friendly.

2. The Shore Hotel

The Shore Hotel

The Shore Hotel in Santa Monica is not only one of the nicer hotels in the city, it is arguably one of the most eco-friendly hotels on our list. They are committed to many sustainable recycling policies, the hotel was built from recycled material and the wood used for construction was sourced from local sustainable forests, they manage their energy consumption aggressively, and they have partnered with the Clean the World Foundation which is the largest non-profit organization in the world that helps recycle hotel soaps and waste.

1. The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel

The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel

Any Ritz-Carlton hotel is already a class leading, five-star location so you can be certain that you are in good hands regardless of the hotel. This particular Ritz in Dana Point is also one of the best eco-friendly hotels in SoCal. Like Terranea, this Ritz leads many conservation projects to not only protect the local area, but to educate those that are concerned about the environment. They have partnered with the Ocean Future Society and are committed to being an environmentally conscious hotel.
