The Microsoft HoloLens Goes Beyond Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality

Microsoft Hololens

We’ve seen the Google Glass, Sony’s project Morpheus, and the Oculus Rift but now it seems that Microsoft is about to enter the virtual reality industry. Unlike other virtual reality headsets Microsofts “HoloLens” will allow the user to interact with three-dimensional projections seamlessly fitting in with the real world.

The Microsoft HoloLens will be distinctly different than other virtual reality headsets because of that fact, and Microsoft seems to be targeting those whose job relates to “hands-on” creation. Microsoft says that “your world is the canvas” as this device will display virtual media into the real-world. Rather than displaying a text message notification, the device will allow you to graphically design something virtual on your desk, for example. While this device may seem to good to be true, it might be here sooner than you think.

Microsoft has confirmed that this device will run Windows 10, which is expected to ship out to users sometime in the fall of this year. The HoloLens will be able to register movements, voice commands, what you’re looking at, and how you interact with your environment. With what Microsoft claims the device can do, it should be the most advanced virtual-reality headset ever released.

From checking the weather to playing virtual-video games, Microsoft hopes that the HoloLens will offer users a variety of different uses. Still the potential that this device offers graphical designers is immense. These holograms that the device displays will allow the user to interact with their environment in entirely new ways; Microsoft hopes this device will be a new medium of creation. This device will really be the first of its kind that visual combines the virtual-world with the real-world.

HoloLens 5
Microsoft has not said when this device will launch but we should hopefully see it within the next two years at the most, I would guess. It will be great to see the HoloLens come out, and how people will use and interact the device. While we don’t lnow to much, in the meantime you can watch this teaser video Microsoft has created for the HoloLens:
