Wine is the nectar of the gods. Not only did a number of ancient civilizations believe that, but many dedicated wine connoisseurs seem to believe it as well. Wine is a very serious business, a business that combines nature, science, and luxury, while being completely dependent upon factors like climate, landscape, and human intervention. There can be what seems like thousands upon thousands of wines to choose from when entering a local wine and spirits store, and simply picking out one can be a daunting task. But like everything else in the world nowadays, there’s an app for that. Whether you make seasonal vacations to Napa Valley for some of the world’s best wine, or simply like having a glass or two with dinner, here are five (free!) wine apps that will satisfy the connoisseur in you.
5. WineQuest
WineQuest is an app that makes you take a “taste interview” to help hone in on your personal flavor preferences. You’ll be asked personal questions in relation to your salt, coffee, beer, and cocktail tastes to better help select your desirable type of wine. The app claims that it will predict how anyone will like any wine in the world, and even allows you to compare your tastes side-by-side with a friend or family member.
4. Crushed
Crushed is the only truly social wine app on this list. With the app, users can track, search, and share their favorite wines and wineries across social media. Instead of “liking” your friend’s posts, you “cheers” them on Crushed. Similar to other social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, Crushed allows you to create a profile, share pictures, updates, and reviews, and find friends with similar tastes to see what they may be drinking.
3. Hello Vino
In an extremely easy-to-use format that isn’t too dumbed-down, Hello Vino is an app that helps you find the right bottle of wine to go with just about any type of food. From the greasiest pepperoni pizza to the most expensive surf and turf, Hello Vino makes sure you never have to worry about getting the wrong wine again. You can also save the wines you’ve tried and liked and the place you had them to easily access next time your out.
2. Vivino
Vivino is a wine app that includes a snapshot feature, one of the most impressive features available from the apps on this list. Taking a picture of a wine bottle’s label will allow you to find out the wine’s average rating, price, and comments from other Vivino users. You’ll be able to rate and remember these wines yourself as well, and after three ratings or wish list additions, the app will begin recommending bottles in relation to your tastes.

Another wine app that provides the “snap-and-seek” feature, Delectable gives you a slew of information about a bottle of wine from a simple snapshot. The app also features a wine community section where you can voice your own opinions and reviews, ask questions, connect with fellow wine connoisseurs, and see what a number of winemakers, sommeliers, and wine editors are talking about and drinking. The Wine Journal feature also allows you to track what you taste.
