Five Rare Whiskies that are Worth Investing In

Rare Whiskey Investments

Outside of your typical store-brand whiskies like Jack Daniels or Jameson, there is a whole world of boutique, high-end, and rare whiskies that are extremely more expensive than their mass-produced cousins. Many people enjoy collecting whiskies like these, however they are definitely meant to be opened and enjoyed. These types of rare whiskies are typically aged for years, sometime even half a century, and that gives them a unique taste like no other. Obviously these whiskies taste better than you common store-brand ones, however they do typically cost a lot more. So if you want to get into the world of rare whiskies, what are some that are worth getting? We are going to look at five rare whiskies that are worth the hefty cost.

5. The Balvenie Single Malt 30-year – $900

The first whiskey that we are going to look at is the Balvenie Single Malt 30-year. As the name implies this whiskey is aged for 30 years. This whiskey was made by David Stewart who used oak and European sherry casks to age the whiskey in. It’s also worth mentioning that Anthony Bourdain is going to collaborate with Stewart on a new whiskey, so you can be sure that it’s pretty good.

4. The Yamazaki Single Malt 25-year – $2,130

Another whiskey worth the hefty price-tag would be the Yamazaki Single Malt 25-year whiskey. This whiskey was deemed last year by whiskey critic Jim Murray as one of the world’s best. The whiskey has very unique notes, and while it is expensive, you can track it down more easily than others.

3. The Royal Salute 38-Year-Old Stone of Destiny – $750

This whiskey is a limited-edition run from Chivas Regal and all the whiskies used in the blend are at least 38 years old. Scotch drinkers around the world should enjoy this bottle, but you better get one quick as they have only produced 600 bottles in the entire world.

2. The Mortlach Single Malt 25-year – $1,150

Johnnie Walker scotch is comprised of a blend of whiskeys, which includes the Mortlach Single Malt and now they are selling it by itself for the first time. They have a range of different Mortlach Single Malt scotch, but the 25-year one is easily the best and it makes for a good investment.

1. The Glenlivet Winchester Collections: Vintage 1964 – $25,000

While this whiskey is extremely expensive, it is some of the best that money can buy. This whiskey is also considered one of the world’s first collection of single malts that have been aged for at least 50 years. Only 100 bottles exist in the world and they definitely make for a solid investment, and will most-likely only gain value over the years. Apparently when you buy one, the bottle comes with its own cabinet.
