Gisele Bundchen is the New Leading Lady for Chanel No 5

39th AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Morgan Freeman - Red Carpet

It’s one of the world’s most famous, most iconic fragrances and its newest campaign is being fronted by one of the world’s most famous supermodels. Chanel No. 5 debuted its new campaign at a star-studded New York City dinner filled with some of the world’s most famous faces in fashion. Famed director Baz Luhrmann debuted his newest masterpiece for the fragrance line, starring none other than the world’s wealthiest supermodel, Gisele Bundchen.

Bundchen has taken over for the former face of Chanel No. 5, actress Nicole Kidman. There’s something about both faces of the fragrance that embody classic elegance, lovely beauty and the chic sophistication that a fragrance of this nature demands. The narrative directed by Luhrmann is based on The One That I Want, and it features Bundchen at her finest. The basis of the campaign is to show off Bundchen in every aspect of her life, following her as she blossoms from an everyday woman and mother to a model, wife and world-traveler. The purpose is to catch every woman in her prime and entice her to try the scent no matter her current stage in life. Chanel wants to invoke the belief that the iconic fragrance is for all women, not just the upscale woman Chanel typically commands.

Using Bundchen is a brilliant move, as she’s one of the most fresh-faced models in the industry. Her look marries the exotic beauty of a Brazilian supermodel with the everyday fresh-faced appearance of the modern woman. The brand used a design team with an Academy Award-winning past to create the new brand, and it is working. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Chanel put its best foot forward with this new campaign, raising the already high bar it has set so many times in its past campaigns.
