The Most Expensive Luxury Duvet Covers Cost More than Some Cars

Shopping for linens is simple for some and a bit more complicated for others. Finding the perfect bedding is a chore for some; it’s difficult to find precisely what it is you want in the correct color or pattern along with the correct standard of luxury. Duvet covers come in many shades, patterns and designs, but only one can be the most expensive, most luxury duvet cover in the world.

Eiderdown duvets are the most expensive in the world. The reason these bed covers are so luxurious and expensive is the fact that they are made specifically from one type of eiderdown and only seven or eight duvets are produced on an annual basis. Somewhere in the Norwegian Sea lies an island by the name of Lanan. On this island, residents collect eiderdown from nests in what amounts to less than an ounce per nest; it takes more than 35 ounces to make one duvet cover.

What make eiderdown duvets so luxurious is the fact that they are so soft and supple, as well as the fact that they are woven into fabric so tight that dust cannot penetrate the cover. These duvets are often antiques passed down from generation to generation. The ducks that make the nests containing eiderdown are looked after by residents of this little island, even though winters are so harsh that the ducks and the residents are forced to leave until spring each year.

Aside from being the most luxurious and most comfortable in the world, these duvets are also hypoallergenic, which makes them even more valuable to those who purchase them. To own an eiderdown duvet, you might find yourself on a waiting list. Why? Because there are less than 10 produced each year thanks to the small amount of eiderdown produced by the ducks on this small Norwegian island. Additionally, you will need as much as $8600 to purchase just one cover.
