The Most Expensive Basketball Arenas in the NBA

Views Of New York's Madison Square Garden

The NBA is getting loads of attention right now awaiting the responses from Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony to announce where they are going to play next year. Things in the NBA could stay relatively the same over the next couple of days or they could be different and lots of players could be traveling to new teams and be playing in a bunch of new stadiums, so let’s take a look at the most expensive basketball arenas in the NBA.

5. The Staples Center (LA Lakers & Clippers) – $375 Million

The Staples center was constructed back in 1999 and is sometimes known as the entertainment center of the world. The arena normally hosts over 250 events each year and even covers the Grammy’s and X-Games along side of all the basketball events they have there. The Staples Center is mainly home to the LA Clipper and Lakers during the season and also is used by the Kings (hockey) and Sparks (WNBA).

4. American Airlines Center (Dallas Mavericks) – $420 Million

The American Airlines Center is best known for it’s massive outdoor plaza that is large enough to host events in, but is also the home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. The arena gets used for other events in town along with the Dallas Stars hockey team, but is also a great spot to come hangout and watch the game from outside even if you don’t have tickets.

3. Amway Center (Orlando Magic) – $480 Million

The Amway Center opened only four years ago in 2010 and is the home court for the Orlando Magic. The arena can be immediately recognized due to its 180 foot front piece called “the spire” that changes color and even has a lounge located at the top with amazing views.

2. Barclays Center (Brooklyn Nets) – $1 billion

The Barclays Center opened two years ago in 2012 and is one of, if not, the newest arena out there. The place seats 18,200 people and is the home court for the Brooklyn Nets. The Barclays Center is very nice and hosts plenty of events such as the A-10 college basketball tournament. The arena features the clearest video displays on both the interior and exterior of the building  and is a great spot to catch a game.

1. Madison Square Garden (New York Knicks) – $1.1 Billion

Madison Square Garden is a classic arena that has been around since 1968. The only reason it has made it to the top of this list is because there is currently a renovation project going on that costs $850 million which bumps the total cost of the building up to $1.1 billion. MSG hosts the New York Knicks and the arenas renovations will hopefully usher in a new and successful era of basketball under the guidance of Phil Jackson.
