Music To Your Ears from Bang & Olufsen

A DJ plays music at the second annual Hipster Olympics

The way consumers listen to music could be seeing a huge change in the near future and we won’t need to rely on normal speakers and players with the new product from Bang & Olufsen and their latest product; the BeoSound Moment. The new type of speaker pairs to smartphones or other tech devices through bluetooth and the user just has to select the specific playlist they want and the music will predict the songs that the user wants to hear at the exact moment, eliminating a general need for skipping songs or worrying about what you are or aren’t in the mood for.

The new device revolves around the idea that you step into a room and simply tough the circle on the minimalistic display panel and the perfect music will play that fits the scenario or atmosphere that is currently going on. The device uses “Pattern play” which takes 2 to 3 weeks to build up based on user preferences and learning the user’s habits similarly to a product like the Nest thermostat. This type of technology is popping up in tons of different industries and finding a bunch of valuable uses, it was only a matter of time until it transitioned to a physical music device. Plenty of streaming websites like Spotify use this pattern technology to run playlists for their users but the new BeoSound can be used anywhere with any type of streaming service or phone.

As long as the devices are synced up, when you walk within range of the BeoSound, users won’t even have to remove their phones or devices from their pockets; they just need to touch the circle and voila. The BeoSound Moment from Bang & Olufsen will be released in the next couple of months at a price of $2,795, and it will be interesting to see how the device does in the market and how well the pattern play technology works.
