Volkswagen Looks Towards the Future With Their All-Electric BUDD-e Concept Car

Pending the massive scandal regarding Volkswagen and their U.S. emissions tests, the German automobile manufacturer looks towards the future with their all-electric BUDD-e concept car. Unveiled at the 2016 Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, the BUDD-e could be yet another promising electric automobile. But will they actually make it?

Reminiscent of the iconic Volkswagen Type 2 vans from the 50’s, 60’s, and the 1970’s, the BUDD-e feels much like their futuristic older brother. The BUDD-e features a large 101-kWh battery that is able to allow the vehicle to travel some 233 miles on a single charge. Couple that battery with the vehicles twin electric motors, and it could potentially reach speeds of 93 mph. But then again, this wouldn’t be a car that you’d buy to go fast.

The Volkswagen BUDD-e also features many other new technologies. It would have fast charging capabilities that would allow the large battery to charge much quicker than with current methods. The interior would also be extremely advanced, as the dash would be replaced with multiple screens. Possibly touch screens? Who knows.

As interesting and promising as the Volkswagen BUDD-e is, it is still just a concept car. Unfortunately it does not seem as though Volkswagen will produce the vehicle at all, however they have promised to deliver much of the cars technologies by 2020. So while we may never see production versions of the BUDD-e, the future will most likely be filled with advanced electronic cars.
