Tesla Will Finally Roll-Out The Model X on September 29th

Tesla Model X

Back in February of 2012 Tesla came out and unveiled to the world their next mass-produced vehicle, the Model X. Following the popularity of their Model S, Tesla wanted to get into the world of small SUVs and crossovers. The Model X was well received, and those looking to get their hands on the car waited, and waited, and then kept on waiting. After a range of setbacks, the Model X will finally be released on September 29th to those that preordered the car.

Elon Musk confirmed to buyers via Twitter that the vehicle will finally make its way on the roads, and we couldn’t be any more excited. I’ve personally had the opportunity to drive in and see a Model S, and it’s an extremely appealing automobile and the Model X should be just as good, but delivered in a different package.

The Model X borrows a lot of the parts from the Model S, and it even uses the same platform. It will feature two electronic motors, gull-wing doors, a somewhat larger interior, all-wheel drive, and the same options that are available on the Model S. In terms of performance, it’s expected that the Model X performs about the same or a little “worse” than the Model S as the two share many of the same parts, yet the Model X is slightly heavier. But that’s not a bad thing, and we should expect to see a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 3.1 seconds on the performance version.

Those that have preordered the Model X can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as some have been waiting awhile now. The vehicles will first be delivered to those that have already ordered one, but you can now also order a Model X on their website, provided that you give a $5,000 dollar deposit. Elon Musk also confirmed that the Model X will be $5,000 more than the Model S, which at $70,000 dollars (before incentives and gas savings) is already an expensive vehicle. There will also be a Model X “Signature Series” which will start at $132,000 dollars and be the most premium version.

The good news does not stop there however. Elon Musk also confirmed that production of the Model 3, the companies next car, will start sometime in “about two years”. It will be unveiled in March, and that is also when they will start taking preorders. The Model 3 will be a small, low-cost sedan that will start at $35,000 dollars. For the average car owner, this vehicle will be the most attractive offering from the brand, as many cannot afford to drop $70,000 to $80,000 on a new car. All of this is great news, and we look forward to the roll-out of the Model X and what the future has in store for Tesla.
