A Rare 1954 Bentley Continental Could Fetch over $1MM at Auction

World famous luxury car manufacturer Bentley has produced a variety of high quality luxury vehicles over the years, and some of these go for large sums of money in auction houses. Well recently a super rare Bentley R Type Continental Fastback has appeared and it is expected to be an extremely desirable item.

The Bentley R Type was one of the “post-war” cars that Bentley made and they were produced between 1952 and 1955. The vehicle was a classic 4-door salon type luxury car. These cars originally housed a 4.6 litre IOE Straight-six engine that had around 130 horsepower. The vehicle also featured either a 4 speed manual gearbox that could be upgraded to an automatic gearbox. The cars were assembled in Crewe, United Kingdom and around 2,500 of these cars were produced.

The car in question is a late D series version of the R Type Continental Fastback. This particular vehicle has an right hand drive with an automatic gearbox, go which there are only estimated to be 2 others in existence. Due to this fact this makes the already valuable antique car, worth even more money. The original owner of the car has kept the vehicle in spectacular condition as well. It comes with a long history report detailing every time the vehicle was serviced. The car has been repainted in a gray color, however I think it does a good job of accenting its interior of brown wood and blue leather. At the time Bentley allowed buyers to slightly customize their vehicle and this vehicle has additions such as the automatic gearbox, electric windows, a larger engine, and a flat gasoline tank. It was originally purchased by Alan Clark back in March of 1954. The car will be put on sale for auction at Silverstone Auctions and it is expected to sell somewhere between $1 million and $1.4 million dollars.
