Porsche Unveils An All-Electric Concept Car As They Look To Take On Tesla

Porsche Mission E

Following the success of the incredible 918 hybrid-hypercar, Porsche is now looking towards the future with their release of an all-electric concept car called the Mission E. The German automobile brand has recently shown of the car at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show seemingly out of left field, and it’s shaping up to be a truly impressive vehicle.

Electric, battery-powered cars have come a long ways over the years and they are certainly the future of the automobile. While there are a few different electric cars out there to choose from, many would point towards the Teslas as being some of the best. Well that’s going to change with the Porsche Mission E, as they are looking to take on Tesla with this new car.

The Mission E is the first all-electric, four-seater sports car for the brand so they wanted to be sure to create an incredible vehicle from the start. The vehicle has an attractive, forward-thinking design that reaffirms that this car is above the competition. When Porsche launched the Panamera, it received heavy criticism for it’s design that many felt was unappealing. Given Porsche’s distinct design language, consumers were unsure about their four-door cars. Well you can forget about that with the Mission E, as it is a beautiful car in terms of design, both inside and out.

At the heart of the Mission E is the vehicles 800-volt powertrain and drive system. Like all Porsche’s, the Mission E is certainly a sports car that offers the performance to match. In their press release, Porsche exclaims that this electric system will be able to provide the vehicle with 600hp in total. Since electric power is instantly available, that mean’s that the Mission E will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds. So not only is this car environmentally friendly and progressive, it’s pretty fast as well. Add in an all-wheel drive platform, and the Mission E can certainly hold it’s own on the track. The interior of the car is also very promising. It’s luxurious and packed with modern automobile features.

However electric cars are still not without their faults. They have a limited operational range and often take a good bit of time to charge up. Yet despite that, the Mission E should still be a solid performer. Porsche says that it will able to travel over 310 miles on a single charge. Additionally the Mission E will have a fast charging system, allowing it to charge 80% of the battery in just 15 minutes, a truly impressive figure. For the time being, the Mission E just remains to be a concept car. However Porsche seems to be fully committed to their new all-electric car, and it could be brought into full production sometime within the next five years. No word as to how much a production version would cost, but I’d imagine it to be somewhere over $80,000 dollars at least. Still, the Mission E looks like an incredible machine, and we look forward to seeing the future of this car.
