In Swedish the word “Regera” is translated as “to reign”, and that is exactly what this all-new vehicle from Koenigsegg will do: reign above all other hypercars. Koenigsegg is a very small automobile manufacturer that only produces a very limited number of vehicles each year, however they are arguably some of the best performing vehicles ever. The company has recently unveiled their new vehicle called the Regera, and it is one of the craziest vehicles that we have ever seen. This vehicle makes the McLaren P1 or the LaFerrari look like children’s toys. Let’s take a quick moment to look at this incredible automotive achievement.
The Koenigsegg Regera is a hybrid hypercar that is unlike any other vehicle that has ever been produced. So where to start? Well the Regera has quite a lot of power, like an insane amount. The Regera has a 5.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that pumps out 1,100bhp to the rear wheels. In any car, that stat alone is enough to wow any gear head. But Koenigsegg didn’t stop there: they also managed to fit in three electric motors on top that provides the car with a total power output of around 1,500hp and over 2,000 Nm of torque.
The Regera get’s even more absurdly awesome due to its unique and incredible drivetrain. Koenigsegg has provided the Regera with their all-new “Direct Drive” transmission, which is essentially a single-speed gearbox. The electric motors don’t need gearboxes, so this single-gear is used for the V8. The car uses a hydraulic coupling that links the motors directly together, so you don’t even need a transmission, at least one that we are all familiar with. Since it has a single-gear the car is lighter and can accelerate even faster. Obviously the vehicle is also outfitted with the latest driving technologies and is primarily made out of carbon fiber, so it is really light.
So when all of these facts come together, what can this car do? Koenigsegg says it can go from 0-60mph in just 2.7 seconds, and it can reach its top speed of 249mph in “under 20 seconds”. All things considered, this car is absolutely incredible. Now if you want to get your hands on one, it may be a little difficult. Koenigsegg is only going to be producing 80 (handmade, of course) and it will most likely start at $1.89 million dollars. We are definitely looking forward to when this car is officially released so we can see how it handles and goes around race tracks.
