Five Mercedes-Benz Concept Vehicles We Hope Become Real

2013 Geneva Auto Show

Mercedes-Benz is one of the world’s premier luxury automobile manufacturers. A multinational division of the German manufacturer Daimler AG, the company produces luxury cars, SUVs, trucks, vans, buses, and limos under the Mercedes-Benz brand. Headquartered in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, the brand first appeared in 1926 under the Daimler-Benz company name but can trace its origins all the way back to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft’s 1901 Mercedes motor car and Karl Benz’s 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagon–widely regarded as the world’s first gas-powered automobile. Part of the “German Big Three” luxury automakers–Audi and BMW being the other two–Mercedes-Benz is one of the best selling automakers in the world. Besides its native Germany, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are also manufactured in 26 other countries and available worldwide, while the company has maintained an outstanding reputation for both its quality craftsmanship and durability. Mercedes-Benz’s current model range is comprised of a number of different passenger, light commercial, and heavy commercial equipment, from its C-Class Coupé to the Unimog multipurpose truck. Along with a number of prestigious models available on today’s automotive market, Mercedes-Benz has also created a wide array of aesthetically pleasing and innovative concept designs. The following is a list of the top five Mercedes-Benz concept models we hope become real as soon as possible.

5. Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force Concept

Based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Ener-G-Force concept is a theoretical environmentally-friendly SUV designed specifically for the future of law enforcement and emergency services. Its futuristic design includes zero-emission F-CELL hydrogen fuel cell technology, a lightweight-composite construction, an operating range of up to 500 miles, and four electric wheel-hub monitors that work independent of one another.

4. Mercedes-Benz Silver Lightning Concept

The Mercedes-Benz Silver Lightning Concept, also known as the Silver Arrow, was revealed in 2011 as a concept created for that year’s Los Angeles Design Challenge. The Design Challenge’s stated goal was to find “Hollywood’s Hottest New Movie Car,” resulting in Mercedes-Benz’s design team creating this futuristic Hollywood-style homage representing 125 years of innovation and design. The sleek and unique low-lying design draws inspiration from a number of historical Mercedes-Benz race cars.

3. Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision GT Concept

For the sixth installment of the renowned video game series Gran Turismo, Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division created the Vision Gran Turismo Concept. Digitized by Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, not only was the car featured in last year’s Gran Turismo 6, but Mercedes-Benz also created a full-scale model that debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The engineless real-world model, inspired by classic 1930s Mercedes-Benz race cars, features gull-wing doors, a low teardrop tail, flared wheel arches, an LED grille, and eight exhaust pipes.

The Mercedes-Benz F125 Concept car is an electrically-driven, hydrogen-fuel-cell concept car unveiled in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. A celebration of Mercedes-Benz’s 125th anniversary, the four-seat F125 Concept features two gull-wing doors and is powered by an electric motor at each wheel and a 10-kWh capacity lithium sulfur battery powered by a hydrogen-fuel-cell. 1. Mercedes-Benz BIOME Concept

Created for the 2010 Los Angeles Design Challenge, the BIOME is a concept car that would theoretically be grown in a lab rather than built on the production line. That’s right, grown. The “vision of the perfect vehicle for the future” includes growing a natural material called BioFibre that is lighter than metal or plastic, yet stronger than steel. Built from this BioFibre material, the 875.5-pound completely biodegradable vehicle’s interior would grow from the Mercedes-Benz star on the front, while its exterior would grow from the star on the back. Definitely the craziest concept on this list, the full-scale mock-up is one of the coolest and most futuristic Mercedes-Benz models ever created.
