The Pagani Huayra

The Pagani Huayra is an Italian mid-engined sports car produced by by Pagani Automobili S.p.A., an Italian manufacturer of sports cars and carbon fiber. Succeeding the company’s previous offering, the Zonda, the Pagani Huayra supercar costs around $1.5 million and is named after the Incan wind god, Wayra Tata. Officially debuted in March 2011 at the Geneva Auto Salon, the Huayra features the M158 engine, a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG specifically for the Huayra supercar that produces 730 metric horsepower and 740 lb. ft. of torque, a seven-speed sequential gearbox and single disc clutch, a top speed of 231 miles per hour, a zero to 60 acceleration time of 3.2 seconds, Pirelli tires, Brembo brake calipers, a gloriously intricate interior, and active aerodynamics that allow the car to change the height of the front from the ground and independently operate four flaps placed at the rear and front of the car.

The Huayra was named “Hypercar of the Year” in 2012 by Top Gear magazine and received a very positive review when tested by Richard Hammond on the British television series Top Gear. The Huayra is currently the fastest car to go around the Top Gear test track with a time of 1:13.8, beating the previous record of 1:15.1 set by the Ariel Atom V8 in January 2011. The supercar was also was used in the 2014 film Transformers: Age of Extinction as the KSI prototype turned Decepticon Stinger. Each Pagani Huayra is built to order and can cost upwards of $2 million. Headquartered in San Cesario sul Panaro, Italy and founded in 1992 by Horacio Pagani, who formerly managed Lamborghini’s composites, Pagani Automobili S.p.A. debuted its first sports car in 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Zonda C12. The private company entered the U.S. market in 2007 and has since created 13 custom Zonda models and two custom Huayras in addition to the standard supercars.
