So you are at the point in your life where you’ve decided that you should own a Ferrari. With any supercar, especially Ferraris, you are going to have to drop quite a lot of money to own one. When a new Ferrari 458 Spider goes for around $260,000 dollars, only a very select few can realistically afford one. But what if I told you that you can own a respectable Ferrari for under $70,000 dollars? Nope this isn’t a joke, just pick up a used Ferrari 360 as they are surprisingly extremely affordable (for a supercar that is).
The Ferrari 360 is a mid-engined, two-seater supercar that the company produced from 1999 to 2005. This rear-wheel drive coupe came in a few different version, however all of which are very attractive. The majority of 360’s came with a 3.6 liter V8 engine that offered between 400bhp to 420bhp and 275lb-ft of torque, depending on the model. The 360 could travel from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and it had a top speed of 189mph. Is a brand new 458 better than a car that was released more than ten years ago? Obviously the answer is yes, however if you want a budget Ferrari the 360 is the way to go.
No matter what the car, all automobiles depreciate over time including Ferrari’s. While they don’t produce the 360 anymore, it is still a strong performing supercar that’s better than 98% of the vehicles on the road today. I wanted to see just how cheap you could get one and I was very surprised. There are many 360’s currently for sale on the market. While the average asking price for one is around $92,000 dollars, there are many that cost less than $70,000. Suddenly owning a Ferrari is quite feasible for many. Right now on autotrader.com there is a used 2001 360 Spider with 33,100 miles on with an asking price of $67,900. That costs about the same as a new Porsche Cayman S. That’s a pretty good deal considering what new Ferraris can cost and what the 360 has to offer. Just head on over to any used car website and do a quick search for yourself, and you’ll be met with many 360’s that cost under $70,000. While that is a lot for a car, it’s very affordable for a Ferrari. If you want to spend close to $100,000 you’ll be met by nicer models that can have less than 10,000 miles on them.
So sure, these used 360’s are relatively affordable for what they are. You’ll most likely have to service it somewhat often as Ferraris can become “difficult” with age, and you might have to put up with a coffee stain in the interior, but you will still own a genuine Ferrari for a fraction of the cost of a new one. Yes, there are nicer Ferraris on the market, but that’s not the point. The point is, if you don’t mind owning a used car, there are many great vehicles on the market like the 360 that are very affordable for what they are. Besides do you think anyone will know you’re driving a used Ferrari? No, they will just look at your car and be extremely jealous as you pass them on the highway.
