The BMW i8 “Protonic Red Edition” Will Make Its Official Debut At The Geneva Motor Show

BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition

There’s a lot to love about BMW’s $140,700 dollar i8 and it’s easily one of the most futuristic cars that you can buy today. However something that does leave a lot to be desired are the colors that they offer the vehicle in, which are almost exclusively blacks, grays, and whites. Well those that were waiting out for a more “exciting” looking BMW i8 will be pleased to hear about the Protonic Red Edition which the company plans to officially unveil at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The Protonic Red Edition of the BMW i8 offers customers another choice when it comes to design and the cars overall aesthetic. While many things about this limited edition version of the i8 remain the same, there are a few distinct features. Obviously the car will now be available in the eye catching “Protonic Red” color, which is a welcome color addition to the fairly uninspiring color palette that BMW currently offers prospective i8 buyers. Additionally BMW has revamped the interior and made it a bit more luxurious with premium leather, red stitching, carbon-fiber, and even ceramic trim that can be found throughout the car. Apparently the i8 Protonic Red Edition will be the first vehicle within a series of more luxurious and “special” i8’s, so there’s a lot to look forward to here.

The car also features new 20-inch W-spokle 470 light-allow wheels, Protonic Red badges, and more. Outside of aesthetic changes, again, this i8 is still the same as the others. The vehicle still has a 1.5-liter turbocharged I-3 engine in addition to an electric motor, allowing the car to offer drivers 357 horses in total. The vehicle can accelerate from a resting position to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and it can top out at speeds of 155 mph. However most importantly the car is extremely environmentally friendly, as it has a small carbon footprint and you can get the equivalent of about 76 miles per gallon.

While BMW hasn’t changed much with the Protonic Red Edition when it comes to its internals, these aesthetic changes are quite welcomed and we look forward to seeing more of these limited edition i8’s in the future.
