Automobile Tuner Hennessey Reveals Its New Venom F5

Hennessey Performance Engineering, the Texas-based modern automotive tuning house established in 1991, has recently revealed the first details about its newest vehicle scheduled for immediate release, the Hennessey Venom F5. The Hennessey Venom F5 comes as a successor to the Hennessey Venom GT, Hennessey’s first Venom model released in 2010. Similar to the aerodynamic stylings of a Lotus Exige, the Venom GT delivers 1,244 horsepower and 1,155 ft lbs of torque, enabling it to go from zero to 60 mph in only 2.7 seconds.

In late February of this year, the Venom GT achieved a speed of 270.49 miles per hour, which–according to representatives from Hennessey Performance, the motor-oil company Pennzoil, and Racelogic, the GPS-device manufacturer that clocked the speed–set the world record for the fastest two-seat production sports car.

The newest Venom model looks to surpass its predecessor in both performance and style. Named after the highest classification on the Fujita scale–which is used to measure the strength of tornadoes–the Venom F5 looks to be even faster and handle even better than the Venom GT.

The next-generation Hennessey Venom F5 has a bold, lower-drag shape, a clean-sheet carbon-fiber and aluminum body, additional power, and enhanced technology that will push the new hypercar to velocities previously unimagined for a road-legal, series-produced vehicle.

The twin-turbo powertrain is still under development, but the vehicle’s turbocharger–affixed to a V8 GM engine–is projected to increase in size, while the fuel system and intercooler capacity will be upgraded as well. Hennessey believes it is possible for the Venom F5 to have an output exceeding 1,400 horsepower, eclipse the GT’s acceleration record, and achieve a top speed of over 290 miles per hour.

Several new technologies will also be introduced with the release of the Venom F5, including a single clutch paddle-shift transmission–allowing the Venom F5 to accelerate even quicker–and a GPS-based stability/traction control system that will channel the vehicle’s power and provide increased safety.

The Venom F5 will be revealed next year, with deliveries to customers by 2016. Hennessey Performance Engineering plans to build at least 30 Venom F5s at a price higher than that of the Venom GT, which currently sells at $1.2 million (16 of the 29-car production run have been sold).
