In the world of trucks, the Ford F-150 is easily one of the most popular models out there. It comes in many different configurations, but the coolest one is easily the Raptor. Ford brought us the original F-150 Raptor for the 2010 model year and it was an instant hit. It offered a host of upgrades, premium features, and it was unapologetically more aggressive than the standard F-150. Well now Ford is delivering the new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor and it’s going to be even better.
The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is essentially a truck made for hardcore truck enthusiast. Like the original model, the new Raptor was created with extreme, off-road driving in mind. The entire body of the vehicle is made from military-grand aluminum alloy which is resting on the vehicles high-strength boxed steel frame. Since Ford went with aluminum for this Raptor, the 2017 model is 500 pounds lighter compared to the original. That’s a huge difference, especially once you consider what’s under the hood.
The first Raptor had a beastly 6.2-liter V8 however Ford has replaced that in favor of a twin-turbo DOHC 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. While this engine is smaller compared to the V8, those twin-turbos allow it to offer even more power. So not only is this vehicle lighter than the original, it’s also more powerful. While Ford has not shared the details about specifically how much power the new Raptor will offer, the old one with the V8 managed to deliver 411-hp and 434 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers were already exciting, and now this new one will be even more powerful than that.
Ford has also added new features and upgraded old ones with the 2017 model. It has a higher ground clearance, there’s a new four-wheel-drive “torque on-demand” transfer case, it has 3-inch FOX Racing Shox, a 10-speed automatic transmission with a manual-sifting mode, 17-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires specifically designed for this model, and much more.
Ford has not revealed all of the information on the 2017 F-150 Raptor just yet, however you can follow their website for more details as they come out. We expect this truck to be released sometime during the Fall of 2016, and it should easily become one of the best Ford trucks to-date.
