The 10 Most Influential Ferrari Models of All-Time

The Most Influential Ferraris of All time

Ever since the first road Ferrari was produced back in 1947, the Ferrari name quickly became synonymous with excellence. They are arguably the most famous car manufacturer of all-time, and many consider Ferraris to be the best cars in the world. Four of the top ten most expensive cars ever sold, including the most expensive one, were all Ferraris. They are the leader when it comes to high-performance motor vehicles, whether they’re race cars or supercars. Over the course of Ferrari’s long and rich history, they brand has produced many incredible vehicles. So let’s take a look at the ten most influential Ferraris of all-time.

Ferrari 125 S

10. The 125 S

Enzo Ferrari initially entered the world of automobiles as a car racer and a racing car manufacturer/team. He had no interest in producing street cars, but due to financial difficulties, he was forced to create some cars for the everyday individual. Released in 1947, the 125 S was a prototype 2-seater that featured a V12 engine. The car was very important as this is the first model that was produced by Ferrari. While only two were built, it is still a very influential car.

166 MM Barchetta

9. The 166 MM Barchetta

The Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta was one of the first and earliest cars the brand produced. It was originally released in 1948 and was specifically designed for the famous Mille Miglia endurance race in Italy. Only 39 models of this sports car were produced over the years. It’s design is the most important contribution to Ferrari, as the 166 MM laid the groundwork in terms of design for future Ferrari’s to come in addition to unifying the brands design themes.

Testarossa

8. The Testarossa

Released in 1984, the Testarossa was a mid-engined sports car that featured a 12-cylinder engine. While many things from the 1980’s quickly went out of fashion, the Testarossa did not. This was one of the most popular and best-selling Ferrari’s of all-time. At the time, it offered all of the features that you could want in a high-end sports car and was a solid contender to go up against the supercars Lamborghini were producing.

Ferrari 458 Italia

7. The 458 Italia

The 458 Italia was the first model in the 458 series, and while this version is no longer produced, Ferrari has made some variants that you can still buy although it will be phased out for the upcoming 488 GTB quite soon. Designed by Pininfarina, the 458 Italia (and variants) will go down in history as one of the brands best. From performance and handling to its overall design, the 458 is a slam dunk of a car, and I think it is one of the most beautiful Ferraris, and cars, ever produced.

F40

6. The F40

Released in 1987, the F40 was the defining supercar of the 1980’s. Again, while plenty of things in terms of design from the 80’s have gone out of fashion, the F40 is still arguably extremely attractive looking. It’s aggressive and mean, yet also very beautiful. The F40 was created to celebrate the brands 40th anniversary and it was the last car that Enzo worked on before he passed away. Back then, it was the fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car the brand ever produced. It retailed for $400,000…back in 1987.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

5. The 250 Testa Rossa

One of the many variants in the 250 line, the 250 Testa Rossa was a race car that the brand produced from 1957 to 1961. Ferrari would only produced just 34 of these vehicles, so they are also one of the rarest models that Ferrari ever made. This V12 racer would secure many wins for the Ferrari racing team, and it lives on to be one of the best models of all-time.

LaFerrari

4. The LaFerrari

The LaFerrari is one of the most recent vehicles from the brand, however it will undoubtedly go down in the history books. It’s a limited production hypercar that is most likely the fastest car the company has ever made, and at about $1 million a piece it certainly isn’t cheap. The car features both a 6.3-liter V12 engine and an electric motor, so it’s a hybrid which is a first for the brand. It has 963 hp and can achieve a top speed of 217 mph so it is certainly very deadly. While it’s still a young car, it is influential because it’s their first hybrid-hypercar, and hopefully the first of many to come.

250 California

3. The 250 GT California Spyder

The 250 GT California Spyder was produced in 1957, and was another variant of the 250. This is personally my favorite Ferrari of all-time. It was made specifically for North America, with obviously California in mind. About 106 or so of these vehicles were produced, and they have become some of the most famous Ferrari cars ever. One variant was sold at auction back in 2008 for $10.8 million dollars, which makes it one of the most expensive cars that have ever been sold.

Enzo Ferrari

2. The Enzo Ferrari

Named after the man that started it all, the Enzo Ferrari was a limited-edition supercar that was originally released in 2002. The company only made 400, and they sold-out almost instantly. The Enzo Ferrari was constructed with various technologies seen in Formula One vehicles, so it was an absolute beast. It has a naturally aspirated V12 under the hood that produces 651hp and it can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.14 seconds. It’s still a great car by todays standards, and a favorite among many.

Ferrari 250 GTO

1. The 250 GTO

Ask any fan of Ferrari, or cars for that matter, and most will point to the 250 GTO as the best and most influential Ferrari ever constructed. It was a race car that they made back in 1962, and with only just 39 examples ever made, it’s also one of the rarest for the brand. Read any car magazine or website, and most consider this to be arguably the best car ever. Whether or not that’s true, plenty of people love this car. So much so, that one was sold in a private sale for $38.1 million last year, which makes the 250 GTO the most expensive car of all-time.
