A $170,000 Loom Band Dress on Ebay Sells for $220

A dress that’s made out of looms and takes 45 hours to make is a big commitment, and one this summer sold for a record-breaking $170,000 on eBay. However, it wasn’t long before the sellers of the dress found out that the highest bidder simply could not afford to pay that kind of money for a loom dress – which leads one to ask why she would make the bid in the first place – and the dress has sold for $220. It’s quite a price difference from the original selling price, but the creators of the dress had to do something.

Kathryn Burnand and Helen Wright spent 45 hours and used 20,000 loom bands to create this dress, which they believe is wonderful for a little girl. The two women described the dress as the first of its kind, and they are very disappointed that there is nothing that can be done about the bidder who backed out of the competition.

It seems that eBay, the site on which the dress was auctioned, contacted the women after their complaint that the buyer could not pay up and issued a statement to the sellers that there is nothing they can do to force the woman to pay the fee if she simply doesn’t have the money to afford it. Upset, the women took the dress to the Macmillan Cancer Support Center where they donated the dress to an auction being held there to benefit cancer support. The dress sold at the auction for $220.

This is after the women carried the dress around the many tables at the auction and listened as women talked about what a wonderful dress it would make for a little girl in their life. The duo thought the dress would sell for significantly more than it did at the end of the day.
