Rush is a Canadian progressive rock band from Toronto who have enjoyed a successful musical career over the years since they first formed up back in 1968. They are known for creating complex songs and concept albums that make the listener think about music on a deeper level. The band is comprised of bassist/lyricist Geddy Lee, drummer/percussionist/lyricist Neil Peart, and guitarist/backing vocalist Alex Lifeson. Over the course of their long musical run the band has released 19 studio albums, 10 live albums, 10 compilations, and 78 singles. We are going to take a look at their three best selling albums, which also showcase some of their finest work.

3. Fly by Night

The first album on our list is Fly by Night and it is the second album that Rush put out. It was released in 1975 on Anthem Records and featured elements of hard rock, progressive rock, and even heavy metal. The album features the songs such as “Fly by Night”, “Anthem”, and the nearly nine minute epic known as “By-tor & The Snow Dog”. The album peaked at the number 113 spot on the Billboard 200 and it is certified Platinum in both Canada and The United States.

2. 2112

The next album on the list is the epic 2112. This album is a science-fiction dystopian concept album where all planetary societies have united after a intergalactic war. The album deals with some pretty big themes and it is easily one of their best show-case albums, and is among their best work. The album opens up with the song “2112” which is over twenty minutes long and is comprised of seven different parts. It was also put up under Anthem Records and it is three times certified Platinum in the United States and two times certified Platinum in Canada. This album is regarded as some of the best progressive rock of all time.

1. Moving Pictures

Finally the best selling Rush album ever is Moving Pictures. The album is the bands eight album and it was released in February of 1981. The album was an instant hit and it peaked at the number 3 spot on the Billboard 200 charts. The album features some of the bands most recognizable and popular songs including “Tom Sawyer”, “YYZ”, and “Limelight”. It went quadruple Platinum in the United States and Canada making it their biggest success.
