So far, 2014 has been a decent year for movies that are bringing in a decent amount to the box office. While there haven’t been as many blockbuster sequels released that would really break the bank internationally compared to years past, some motion pictures have still seen a very nice return on their movies. These are the highest worldwide grossing movies of 2014 so far.

5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – $708,294,944

The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man came out on May 2nd and had everyone excited. The film had an improved cast and plenty of villains for Spider-Man to face off against. Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan were great additions to the cast and the film made $708.2 million.

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier – $714,083,572

The sequel to Captain America was highly anticipated and released back on April 4th of this year. The movie felt more like a spy thriller rather than the classic comical Marvel movie, but that wasn’t a bad thing. The Winter Soldier is considered to be one of the top Marvel films to come out and pulled in $714,083,572 on a $170 million budget.

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past – $745,389,166

Days of Future Past is the latest installment of the long running X-Men movie franchise, and this one combined the cast of the old and new films. The story is a classic from the comics that tons of fans wanted to see on the big screen, and they pulled in $745.3 million worldwide. The next X-Men film has already been announced and will release in 2016.

2. Maleficent – $748,501,000

Maleficent released back on May 30th with Angelina Jolie playing the iconic villain. Maleficent gives us the perspective through the villain’s eyes as viewer’s are taken through the mythical world in this film.  Disney made the movie on only a $180 million budget but brought home $748.5 million worldwide.

1. Transformers: Age of Extinction – $1,072,426,000

Age of Extinction is the fourth film in the Transformers series and was once again directed by Micheal Bay. This film took a slightly new direction, ditching Shia LaBeouf as the lead and replacing him with Mark Wahlberg. The fourth installment of the Transformers series cost $210 million to make but pulled in a massive return that is the the largest of 2014.
