Five Things You Didn’t Know about Google Glass

The Prince Of Wales And The Duchess Of Cornwall Visit Canada - Day 4

Google is always setting the bar higher and higher with their latest tech products. Most recently, the buzz has been all about their Google Glass; the glasses looking device that essentially overlays a screen in front of your eye and allows you to do a ton with minimal effort. Google has always been looking towards the future and trying to find ways that they can make life easier (or lazier, you decide) for everyone. The Google glass has been in a beta testing mode but now has opened up the beta for anyone to try if you have a cool $1,500 to drop. For those unfamiliar with the product, here are five things you didn’t know about the Google Glass.

5. Voice Control is a must

The Google Glass is designed for completely hands free use, and everything works through voice control. While there are still some very minimal tapping functions, but the point is to avoid that as much as you can. The device recognizes the phrase, “Okay Glass…” which users should combine with things like record a video or take a photo. The Glass is here to eliminate the time we waste by getting out phones out of our pockets or swiping through apps and folders looking for something to click, and this all starts with using voice control.

4. Google Glass is not a pair of glasses

Despite people thinking the device is called the Google glasses, this is actually wrong. While the device shape is structured like glasses, there is no actual sun protection or optical frames in there. While there have been talks of new models coming out in the future or the company pairing with popular sunglasses companies such as Ray-Ban, the current Google Glass structure is only used for positioning the device in front of the user’s eyes.

3. Somebody was arrested for wearing Google Glass

Yes, I know, I can’t believe it either; however, a man was attending a movie with his wife and the theater actually called the FBI to report him. The feds took him away for questioning believing that he was illegally recording the movie he was seeing, but it turns out the only files he had on the Google Glass were a bunch of family photos.

2. You’ll never get lost again

Bunched in with a ton of the flashy things you can do with the Google Glass is the typical Google Maps function. While this might seem like nothing special, one thing that the Glass will always do is find you a way home. With Google Maps, the Glass can get directions and literally give you a walking path in front of you eyes. By overlaying everything on the screen, it will be first person GPS.

1. The Google Glass is a serious project

Look, we all know that this looks pretty ridiculous right now, but the Google Glass is no joke at all. This device could easily revolutionize how we interact with one another and go about our daily lives. Take it seriously, because the Google glass could really help do a lot of amazing things, but first everyone needs to be on board with the idea.
