Five Things You Didn’t Know about Chick-Fil-A

Inside a Chick-Fil-A Restaurant As Consumer Spending & GDP Rose in 4th Quarter

Today the news broke that Chick-Fil-A founder, S.Truett Cathy has passed away at the age of 93. Cathy never had much wealth, but created and built Chick-Fil-A up into a billion dollar company. In the past, aside from having fantastic breakfast and lunch foods, the company has been known for its strong religious background expressed through not being open on Sundays as well as its strong opposition to serving members of the gay community. Here are five other things you didn’t know about Chick-Fil-A.

5. They sponsor lots of events

The company markets itself in many ways, including sporting events. Chick-Fil-A currently sponsors the college football bowl game in Atlanta, Georgia each year, the “Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl”, along with a high school basketball tournament in South Carolina, an early season college football game at the Georgia Dome and a motorcycle tour.

4. The original restaurant was called Dward House

Truett’s first restaurant was called Dwarf House, located in Haperville, Georgia. The facility is where the original Chick-Fil-A sandwich was created and started everything. The Dwarf House was opened 24 hours a day aside from Sundays and offered an extensive menu.

3. The company had to remove certain ingredients

In 2011 Chick-Fil-A was called out on a blog because their sandwiches contained right around 100 ingredients including some questionable to human health. In 2013, the company had announced that they had eliminated certain ingredients such as Yellow No. 5, which helped to reduce sodium content.

2. Chick-Fil-A could possibly risk cancer

In 2006, Chick-Fil-A was included in a lawsuit that included most fast food restaurants and sit down chains questioning the temperatures they cook their meats at and that most use a temperature that forms a compound that can cause cancer. The lawsuit still has not been fully resolved.

1. Chick-Fil-A is aiming to rid their chicken of antibiotics

Back in February, Chick-Fil-A announced that they were trying to serve their chicken free of antibiotics. They hope to have this complete across the country in five years max. They recognized that certain antibiotics used in livestock can actually transition with the meat and be very harmful to humans.
