When it comes to index funds, Vanguard has the most profitable and most successful in the world. These funds are specifically allocated to make money for investors looking for a very specific type of investment, and the Vanguard Group’s many different index funds do not disappoint. They follow quality standards and passive investments, which make them highly profitable.

Vanguard Admiral Share Fund – $68 billion

If you plan on opening an account here, you’re going to need at least $3000 for an investor share fund or $10,000 for an Admiral share fund. This index fund is not an aggressive fund looking to top the market in performance, rather looking to make smart investments that hedge on the edge of strictly conservative. The company has $68 billion in assets, so it seems their theory works.

Vanguard Total Bond Market Index – $111 billion

This index fund is also the fifth largest mutual fund in the world as of f2012. Primary holdings in this index fund come in the form of US Treasuries and corporate bonds. It’s another passively managed company that borders on the Barclay’s aggregate float adjusted index. The company’s assets are worth more than $111 billion.

Vanguard 500 Index Investor Fund – $111 billion

This company primarily invests in large cap stocks, and its $111 billion worth of assets shows that its investments tend to be on the wise side. The company features a low portfolio turnover at 4 percent. It is known to be one of the most tax-efficient index funds in the country.

Vanguard Institutional Index Fund – $172.6 billion

Some of the biggest funds here go to companies that are widely known. The performance this company tracks is that of Standard & Poor’s 500 index, measuring returns on large investments in companies such as Apple and other major brands. With assets that total $172.6 billion, it’s one of the most successful indexes in the world.

Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund – $190 billion

Here you will find a significant increase in exposure to small and mid-cap companies as well as passively managed stocks. To open an investor share account you will need a minimum deposit of $3,000. To open an Admiral share account, you will need a minimum deposit of $10,000. This index makes no attempt to outperform, which makes it a safe and conservative investment opportunity.
