The Five Largest Google Acquisitions To Date

Google is one of the most profitable companies in the world, and part of the reason it is so profitable is its ability to acquire other companies and sell them at a profit or rework them to make them more profitable. Some of the acquisitions in which Google has been a part have been multibillion dollar deals and others are much smaller. Read on to find out which are the largest acquisitions Google has made to date.

Waze – $966 million

In 2013, Google acquired a company by the name of Waze, which is a GPS navigation app for smart phones. Google turned it into their own GPS navigation app and went on to make a lot of money from the acquisition thus far. Anytime you use a Google GPS system, part of Waze is in it.

YouTube – $1.65 billion

YouTube was nowhere near the hot commodity it is today back in 2006 when Google acquired the company. Today, it’s one of the most successful websites on the internet. The people who visit this site are in the billions, and it’s one of the most downloaded apps.

DoubleClick – $3.1 billion

DoubleClick was purchased by Google in 2008 for $3.1 billion. The company is part of the AdSense program in that it checks on ad clicks and reports findings to Google.  It also works with publishers to set up and provide ad serving on their websites.

Nest Labs Inc. $3.2 billion

Most everyone has heard of – or purchased – the Nest Thermostat. Nest Labs was the creator, and Google purchased the company in January 2014. The company manufactures wi-fi enabled products for the home, and is considered a smart company. Google is the smarter company, purchasing Nest Labs for $3.2 billion.

Motorola Mobility – $12.5 billion

In August 2011, Google acquired Motorola Mobility, a mobile device manufacturer. After the acquisition of the company was complete, Google went onto merge the company into several of its other companies. This includes Android and Google TV. It’s the largest acquisition by Google to date.
